Rams Extend Team Practice Facility Lease at Former Anaheim School

Mayor Tom Daly said Tuesday that the Los Angeles Rams have tentatively agreed to a lease agreement that will keep the team practicing at Rams Park at the former Juliette Low Middle School.

Daly said the details of the agreement will be made public later this week. He said the terms of the lease--expected to be approved at Tuesday’s City Council meeting--do not differ much from a proposal that was discussed in December.

Under that proposal, the Rams would agree to a 10-year lease with a five-year option and a two-year escape clause, allowing the team to leave as early 1995. The clause would require the Rams to give one-year’s notice to the Magnolia School District and pay off the second year of rent of $120,000.

The team’s lease for the practice facility expired Dec. 31. The lease negotiations have been a side issue to the city’s greater concern of having the team leave Anaheim Stadium altogether.

The Rams have already announced their intention to give the city notice that they will be exercising an escape clause in their stadium lease in May.

With the practice-facility lease settled, Daly said the city can move onto larger issues, such as keeping the team in Anaheim.
