Mary Ellis, who with her husband John (Cam) Ellis was an early settler in Camarillo, died Monday at her home. She was 93.

Ellis and her husband were known for their hard work and commitment to the community, said Evelyn Ellis, her daughter-in-law.

Mary Ellis worked most of her life, Evelyn Ellis said. She worked for 30 years in a lima bean packinghouse, then for 15 years at the Camarillo State Hospital until she retired at the age of 70.

She was an active member of the Camarillo Baptist Church and was known for giving away her home-baked bread to friends and family. She was also passionate about her rose garden.

She is survived by her son and daughter-in-law, Gene and Evelyn Ellis of Camarillo; two granddaughters and three great-grandchildren.

Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. Friday at Pierce Brothers-Griffin Mortuary, Camarillo. Services will be at 1 p.m. Saturday in the Pierce Brothers-Griffin Chapel.
