2 Appointed to Judgeships by Wilson

An Encino attorney and a Westlake Village court commissioner have been appointed judges by Gov. Pete Wilson.

George Schiavelli, 45, of Encino replaces Superior Court Judge Nora Manella, recently named U.S. attorney for Los Angeles.

Schiavelli, who applied for a judge’s seat with Gov. Wilson’s office last year, will be paid $104,262 a year. He is a member of the Los Angeles County Bar Committee on Appellate Evaluations and the Appellate Courts Committee, and has been a partner in the law firm of Horvitz and Levy since 1986.

Barry Taylor, 51, of Westlake Village, a superior court commissioner, was named to the Los Angeles Municipal Court, replacing retired Judge Juaneita Veron. Taylor, who worked in the Los Angeles County public defenders office from 1967 until going into private practice in 1990, will earn $95,214 a year.
