Former Nintendo Workers to Receive Aid: Laid-off Nintendo of America employees are the nation’s first to qualify for federal help under the North American Free Trade Agreement. The Labor Department ruling covered 136 workers laid off by the video game maker on Jan. 11, 10 days after the agreement between the United States, Mexico and Canada was implemented. Workers who lose their jobs when their employer moves operations to Mexico or Canada between Dec. 8, 1993, and Sept. 30, 1994, qualify for federal job-search and retraining services and extended jobless benefits.
