Bus-Truck Collision in India Kills 36; 69 Hurt
An overcrowded bus collided with a truck and caught fire, killing at least 36 people and injuring 69 others, Indian news reports said Sunday.
The accident occurred Saturday night in Shertalai district in the southern state of Kerala, 1,200 miles south of New Delhi.
A group of orphans returning to their orphanage after attending a cultural show in Kochi city were among those killed, the United News of India agency reported, but it did not say how many of them died.
It said the accident occurred when the bus tried to avoid a bicyclist and hit the oncoming truck.
