AUTOMOBILES : Sunday Shift

Share
Compiled by John O'Dell, Times staff writer

As part of its expansion, Orange Coast is abandoning its “never on Sunday” policy--a plan that enabled Gray to slash operating costs at his Jeep-Eagle lot by closing down on Sundays, putting special sale prices in all the car windows, and letting customers browse without any interference from sales personnel. The Sunday prices were good on a no-dickering basis--through Monday for customers who wanted to come back and make a purchase.

But with the expanded facility--the Oldsmobile-Pontiac-GMC Truck lot is much larger than the adjacent Jeep-Eagle property--Gray plans to launch a major used car operation to augment his new car sales.
