Judge Cherness to Step Down in ’95
Culver City Municipal Court Judge Harold I. Cherness announced he will not run for reelection because he is retiring.
Cherness, 71, was appointed by then-Gov. Jerry Brown to the court in 1975. In 1990 he was named Trial Judge of the Year by the Criminal Courts Bar Assn. of Los Angeles County. He was the first Municipal Court judge to receive the award, which usually goes to a Superior Court judge, according to an association spokesperson.
Cherness’ term ends Jan. 1, 1995. The filing deadline for candidates seeking the position is Wednesday. The municipal election will be held June 7.
