That’s Right, Folks!

Candy and flowers are sweet but so, uh, traditional. Try an unexpected source like the Warner Bros. Studio stores in South Coast Plaza, Costa Mesa, and, as of today’s grand opening, in the Brea Mall. “There are gifts that are sentimental, with a sense of humor for all ages,” notes spokeswoman Liz Gardner. And many have a romantic slant: Check out silver-plated pins ($10) or a box containing a “fat-free” T-shirt ($20), both featuring Looney Tunes couples.

More Than Friends

Leave it to Tiffany & Co. to remember that one of the most significant aspects of a relationship between two people is being friends. Hence the legendary jeweler’s recent Friendship Collection of bangles and rings in white, yellow or pink gold adorned by a tiny heart of diamond, amethyst or tourmaline ($375 to $2,600). “It connotes all kinds of things--messages of endearment, courtship or a promise of something more,” says spokeswoman Jo Ellen Qualls. She adds that the line has been well-received by the company’s younger clients.

Love on the Inside

Undergarments are among the most popular gifts at Valentine’s Day--but don’t assume it’s sexy lingerie. Joe Boxer, famous for its novelty print boxer shorts and pajamas, counts this time as one of its busiest of the year. “If you’re going to say it,” says spokeswoman Denise Slattery, “we suggest saying it with underwear.” Skivvies covered with red hearts or ruby lips ($14) have become a classic for the San Francisco-based label. Gals who don’t care to wear his things can turn to the Joe Boxer Girlfriend! line for Cupid jammies ($34) or the “love me, love me not” sleep T-shirt ($18).

Personal Touches

Chocolate mint. Raspberry. Vanilla. These scrumptious flavors don’t come in a box for your honey but, rather, in a collector glass bottle ($12.50) that the two of you can indulge in with a mutual rubdown. Moonrose in San Juan Capistrano carries a full range of Kama Sutra oils that owner Sue Toler says are “popular for sensual massages.” There are also weekender kits filled with samples of flavored oils, cornstarch powders, creams and soaps for $18; the big gift drum is $60. The store also sells the Aura Casia line of essential oils that can be specially blended with massage oil to fit personal tastes for under $20.
