Ex-Bogart’s Booker to Stage Foothill Show

Steve Zepeda, respected for his work as the concert booker at Bogart’s, will promote his first show since the Long Beach club closed in December.

Zepeda, with co-promoter Bill Hardie, will stage a show by the Texas rockabilly-punk band, the Rev. Horton Heat, on Feb. 20 at the Foothill in Long Beach. Also appearing are Flat Duo Jets and Russell Scott & the Red Hots.

Zepeda said he initially had hoped to use the Rhythm Cafe for the date but turned to the Foothill, 1922 Cherry Ave., when it became apparent that the Cafe would not reopen.

He said he may do additional shows at the 500-capacity Foothill, “depending on how this one goes.” Like Bogart’s, the Foothill admits only concert-goers who are of drinking age.

Zepeda’s first choice would be a position such as the one he had at Bogart’s, in which he was a full-time, in-house booker whose job was to bring in a steady flow of local and touring bands.

In talks with local clubs, he said, “I haven’t found anyone who’s serious about that yet.”

Tickets for the Rev. Horton Heat show are $12 through Ticketmaster, $13 at the door. (714) 740-2000 for advance orders, or (310) 984-8349 for show information.
