Times Home Fair Offers Help for Buyers, Sellers

Share

Is the Southland housing market stirring to life? Is now a good time to buy? How will the Northridge quake affect home values? Where are interest rates going?

Questions, questions, so many questions about a confusing topic--real estate--that most of us have to deal with sooner or later. But jot your questions down, because there’s a place to go for expert answers.

The Los Angeles Times will hold its fifth annual Home Buyers and Sellers Fair from 9:30 a.m. to 5 p.m., Saturday, March 19, at the Anaheim Convention Center in Orange County.

The all-day consumer education event will include a full schedule of workshops for home buyers, sellers, borrowers (and refinancers) and small investors. Last year, more than 4,000 people attended the fair.

More than 50 exhibitors--including lenders, realtors and home builders, as well as the state Department of Real Estate, Veteran’s Affairs Department, Department of Housing and Urban Development--will be on hand to talk with you at their booths.

Panel discussions on homeowners insurance policies, condominium ownership, foreclosures and the outlook for 1994 home prices will also be featured at this year’s fair.

Among those participating in fair panels will be several Real Estate section columnists: Robert J. Bruss (“Real Estate Q&A;”); Dian Hymer (“Starting Out”); Jan Hickenbottom (“Condo Q&A;”), and Bradley Inman (“California Trends”).

Also speaking will be Ilyce Glink, the author of “100 Questions Every Homebuyer Should Ask,” and Dan Lieberman, who co-wrote “Getting the Most for Your Home in a Down Market.” Among new features this year are:

--Workshops on home buying and selling conducted in Mandarin Chinese and Spanish.

--A special exhibit area for entry-level buyers with modest incomes called “Paths to Homeownership.” Sponsored by Fannie Mae (the Federal National Mortgage Assn.), the exhibit will offer programs and advice on how to become a homeowner.

Fair-goers can also:

--Pre-qualify for a mortgage to see how much house they can afford, an important first step in house hunting.
