COUNSELING

* UCLA Neuropsychiatric Institute offers free telephone counseling sessions from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. through Tuesday. Information: (800) 825-9989.

* Senior Health and Peer Counseling sponsors free crisis counseling to Westside residents who need help dealing with the emotional impact of the Northridge quake. Counselors are available from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. at the Ken Edwards Center, 1527 4th St. in Santa Monica. Counselors are also available to make home visits. Appointment or information: (310) 576-2550.

* Day and evening support groups are forming at the Wright Institute. The nonprofit mental health clinic, located at 9911 W. Pico Blvd. in Los Angeles, offers short-term groups. Fees are on a sliding scale and no one will be turned away for lack of funds. Information: (310) 277-2796.

* USC’s Earthquake Recovery Assistance Program can help with filling out small business association disaster loan applications.

WORKSHOPS

* Venice-Hamilton Community Adult School will present “How to Avoid Being Ripped Off Following a Natural Disaster.”

The free panel discussion will be at 6:30 p.m. Thursday at Venice High School, 13000 Venice Blvd. Representatives from the city attorney’s office and Los Angeles County Department of Consumer Affairs will discuss consumer protection laws and regulations.

* Bonnie Wokenstein, coordinator of gerontology programs at the Didi Hirsch Community Mental Health Center, will lead a discussion on “Coping With the Trauma of the Earthquake and Aftershocks.” The free discussion will be Thursday at 10 a.m. in the garden room, Veterans Memorial Building, 4117 Overland Ave., Culver City. MEALS

* Santa Monica Hospital has resumed its low-cost “Senior Suppers” program. Meals are served to anyone 50 or older on weekdays from 5 to 6:30 p.m. in the Les Kelly Auditorium, 1255 15th St. The cost is $3 per meal. Information: (310) 319-4560.
