SIMI VALLEY : Hearing Slated on Quake-Repair Funds

Share

The Simi Valley City Council will hold a public hearing tonight on the city’s plan to pay for earthquake-related repairs with federal funds.

In January, the city received approval for early release of its $738,000 share of federal Community Development Block Grant funds. The 1994-95 allocation wasn’t scheduled for release until this summer.

The council will consider a list of proposed projects, the largest of which is $275,000 for street repairs.

Other projects include $120,000 to repair utilities at the city’s mobile-home parks, $100,000 for low-interest loans to homeowners and $75,000 for loans to businesses. City officials said they hoped that the federal government would be able to replace the funds so that groups that usually receive block grant money do not get short shrift.

In 1993-94, the city gave $50,000 to the Simi Valley Soccer Foundation, $20,000 to Interface Children Family Services, $21,750 to the Simi Valley Historical Society, and $5,100 to the Boys and Girls Club.

The hearing is scheduled at 6:30 p.m. at Simi Valley City Hall, 2929 Tapo Canyon Road.
