An Acton man who allegedly shot and killed a father and son during an argument has been arrested by Los Angeles County sheriff’s deputies and charged with murder.

William Strong, the caretaker of a rural home on West Hubbard Road, was taken into custody Saturday night, after he allegedly killed 59-year-old Kenneth Laux and his 34-year-old son, Kenneth Laux Jr., during an altercation about 5:30 p.m., said Sheriff’s Department spokeswoman Diane Hecht.

The father and son were each shot several times in the upper body and died at the scene, Hecht said. Neither man appeared to be carrying a weapon, Hecht said.

The men had driven up to the property, where Strong lives inside a small trailer, shortly before the shooting occurred, Hecht said.

The two men apparently visited with Strong, then argued with him briefly before they were shot, Hecht said. Homicide detectives have not determined why the two men visited Strong, she said.

After the shooting, several neighbors restrained Strong until authorities arrived, Hecht said.

“Apparently the suspect ran over to a neighbor’s house and told them what had happened, and they decided to call police and detain him,” said Sheriff’s Department spokeswoman Benita Hinojos.

He was arrested by sheriff’s deputies shortly afterward.

Police recovered a shotgun at the scene. Strong was booked on suspicion of murder at the Antelope Valley Sheriff’s Station, Hecht said.
