GLENDALE : Board Accepts Bid to Build Classrooms

Share

After nearly a yearlong delay in finding a contractor, the Glendale Board of Education has accepted an $8.2-million bid from an Eagle Rock firm to build 35 additional classrooms at Glendale High School.

The board hired C.W. Driver & Associates for the project, an 81,000-square-foot building between the campus cafeteria and girls gym.

The award brings to a close a nearly yearlong chapter in the district’s attempt to find a builder for the classroom addition, originally slated to be completed by September to relieve crowding at the 2,500-student campus.

Last April, the board in a 3-2 vote rejected all offers for the project and told staff to start the bidding process anew after contractors complained that the district’s design specifications were not clear.

As staff went back to the drawing board, the project faced yet another setback when state officials told the district to upgrade standards for the building’s heating and air-conditioning system.

C.W. Driver officials, who won the contract earlier this month, say they expect to complete the building by July 1, 1995.

Groundbreaking is expected to begin Saturday.
