Memories of ‘the Del’

Your article about the Hotel Del Coronado (“Birthday Suite,” Jan. 30) brought back unforgettable memories of the two nights my husband and I spent there in April, 1992, on our 50th anniversary. For almost 45 years, every time we went to San Diego we made a habit of going over to the Del just to walk around and admire this great old hotel. But we never stayed there until our anniversary.

When we told the desk clerk it was our 50th, he surprised us by giving us a suite at the same price as the one room we had reserved. That gracious gesture and the champagne the management sent to our room and the beautiful basket of flowers our children sent us made that one of the happiest times Joe and I have ever had.
