MOORPARK : Damaged College Library to Reopen

Share

The Moorpark College library is scheduled to reopen Tuesday after a month of work to repair damage sustained in the Jan. 17 earthquake, part of $100,000 in damage across the campus.

Loose and fallen plaster from the building’s central ceiling and cracked walls had to be repaired, and 3,000 books that spilled onto the floor had to be replaced before the main section of the library could reopen.

It was declared structurally safe earlier this month, but has remained closed while workers replaced overhead lights in the building.

However, the library’s upstairs classrooms, which suffered only cosmetic damage, have been in use since Feb. 1.

In addition to library work, the college also had to repair damage at the gymnasium, where overhead lighting fixtures came loose and fell onto support beams, and where an air-conditioning duct crashed to the floor. The gym was reopened by the first week of February.
