The NCAA plans to meet March 1 with the Black Coaches Assn., which threatened last month to lead a boycott of games over a variety of grievances. Cedric Dempsey, NCAA executive director, said, “I think we can resolve the issues as we face them. The convention process will address some of these issues. But we need to create a dialogue first.”

Former UCLA wide receiver Kurt Altenberg, 50, a heart transplant recipient, is scheduled to be discharged from UCLA Medical Center Thursday.

The Los Angeles Blades of Roller Hockey International have hired Bobby Hull Jr., 32, the son of Bobby and the brother of Brett, as coach. Hull replaces John Black, whose contract was not renewed after the 1993 season.
