Media: Praise and a Pan for New Local Sections

Share

I am delighted with your new San Gabriel Valley news section.

I have been taking two papers, L.A. Times plus the Pasadena Star News. I enjoy the full coverage of The Times but needed the Star News for local activities, i.e. meetings of San Marino City Council, lectures, special events, museums, throughout the San Gabriel Valley.

Hope to see your section every week. I really enjoyed it, and needless to say, will save me money by cutting down to one subscription.

May I express my disappointment in your “revised” San Gabriel Valley Section which has evidently been reduced to once-a-week distribution.

Previously, it contained a great deal of San Gabriel Valley news, presumably garnered by live reporters. Today, it contains just a modicum of news, undoubtedly gathered by phone, plus human interest stories, which, while well written, do not reflect what is happening in San Gabriel Valley where you have a large distribution.

I was an advertiser in this section at its inception. It would be nice to return to that format.

I am sure that budget has something to do with the demise of the news section but I would respectfully suggest that it would be no loss were you to draw upon the bloated budget of the Times Magazine and use the funds to again print a viable San Gabriel Valley news section.
