Share

The 14th annual free tennis camp for disabled children will be held at Saddleback College from March 29 to April 2.

Children between the ages of 7 and 18 are eligible for the Junior Wheelchair Sports Camp and must register before March 15 to participate.

The five-day event runs from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. and includes free lunch and bus transportation to the college for all campers.

In addition to tennis, campers will learn or improve skills in other sports, including archery, basketball, track and field, and aquatics.

Those who want to participate should have good use of their upper body and self-help skills.

Their counselors are disabled athletes who will serve as both role models and coaches.

Run by the National Foundation of Wheelchair Tennis, the camp receives donations from the city, service groups and a handful of corporations.

About 100 youths from Orange and Los Angeles counties took part in the camp last year.

Organizers said they need community and corporate sponsors for a benefit golf tournament that will be held in Coto de Caza on June 13.

Private donors and those seeking applications for the tennis camp may call (714) 361-6811 for more information.
