OXNARD : Fugitive Sought Since 1983 Is Arrested

Share

After being charged with running a prostitution ring and fleeing federal authorities for more than a decade, a 47-year-old man has been returned to custody after being arrested for drunk driving in Oxnard, authorities said Thursday.

Sheriff’s deputies in County Jail discovered Angel Enrique Tristani’s status as a federal fugitive on Wednesday when they ran his fingerprints through a statewide identification system. The jailers had become suspicious when Tristani claimed to be an Oxnard resident, but held a Nevada driver’s license.

Through the identification system, deputies discovered the man’s real name was Tristani, not Dino Desetti as he had told Oxnard police.

John Kirk, a special agent with the FBI, said Tristani has been on a list of federal fugitives since he fled the District of Columbia in 1983 after being indicted on 15 counts related to prostitution, including pandering. The charges stemmed from incidents in 1979.

Tristani told authorities that since fleeing in 1983, he has lived in Florida, Michigan, Illinois, Alabama, Nevada and California. He said he moved to Oxnard about a month ago.

Kirk said Tristani will be taken back to Washington, D.C., to stand trial once his drunk-driving charge in Ventura County is resolved. He is being held in County Jail on $26,000 bail.
