1 School Can’t Find Test Results

SPECIAL TO THE TIMES

Why aren’t there test results for Maple Elementary in the Conejo Valley Unified School District?

Because tests taken by fourth-graders at the Newbury Park school last spring apparently have vanished, said Gerry Shelton, a consultant for the California Learning Assessment System.

If there is nothing to score, there can be no results, Shelton said. Of the 1,000 or so schools tested statewide, about a dozen ended up with no scores because quiz sheets cannot be found, he said.

The search for Maple’s tests continues, but the 450-student school may have to wait until next year to see how it measures up academically, Shelton said.

So what happened to the tests? The answer is multiple choice, Shelton said: A) they were lost in the mail; B) they were mixed up with materials from other schools; C) they have been mislaid.

“Nobody knows for sure,” said Sylvia Michael, a Conejo Valley district administrator. “It’s a mystery.”
