A Specialist in Water Boards Joins MWD
Compton resident Regina Murph has been elected secretary of the Metropolitan Water District board.
General manager of the Compton Municipal Water Department since 1976, Murph also serves on several other water-related boards.

New Trustees--The Long Beach-based Community Rehabilitation Industries Foundation has named three new trustees: Long Beach attorney George Kelly, housing manager Dorothy Hicks and the Rev. Christopher Lenocker, associate pastor of Long Beach Presbyterian Covenant Church. The organization was identified incorrectly in the People column March 10.
The Metropolitan Water District provides nearly 60% of the water used by 16 million residents of Southern California, including Los Angeles, Orange, Riverside, San Bernardino, San Diego and Ventura counties.

Several area residents have been appointed to community boards. They include Downey resident Kenneth Beckner, Downey Cemetery District; Long Beach resident Lauraine Barber, county Narcotics and Dangerous Drugs Commission, and Whittier resident Viola Cobett, county Commission on Disabilities.

The Long Beach League of the John Tracy Clinic, an organization that aids preschool deaf children and their families, has elected Long Beach resident Diane Trunek as president. A 10-year league member, Trunek has served on the clinic’s board of directors.

Long Beach resident John Blowitz was elected chairman of the Long Beach Transit board. Blowitz is an owner of Gazette Newspapers.

The Associated Student Body of Long Beach City College has announced the winners of two prestigious campus awards. The Viking Award for exemplary scholarship, leadership and service to the college was presented to John Melino, Lucia Moran, Brian Pratt and Korosh Shakeri, all of Long Beach, and Jennifer Gill and Shelly Selleck of Lakewood. The Crystal Award for leadership and service to the college went to Long Beach residents Julie Berry and Jackie Eyerly.

Ronald Anderson of Paramount was elected to a three-year term on the board of regents of California Lutheran University in Thousand Oaks.

Whittier pharmacists John A. Zeisler and William A. Richelieu received a Drug Therapy Research Award for their research on the antibiotic cefuroxime. The award, which includes a $4,000 honorarium, was presented by the American Society of Hospital Pharmacists.
