TRAVEL AND TOURISM

Going First Class: Travelers with a taste for exclusivity might be interested in an auction to be held during a Laguna Art Museum fund-raising luncheon Monday at Le Meridien Hotel in Newport Beach.

The highest bidder will be able to take a three-day trip to Washington for two that would be the envy of most diplomats.

The trip is tailored to appeal to the tastes of viewers of “Washington Week in Review,” the roundtable discussion of capital journalists seen weekly on PBS. The show’s panelists are going to speak and answer questions at the luncheon.

The trip includes a private tour of the White House, lunch at the Washington Press Club and possibly a chance to see a taping of “Washington Week in Review.” Associated Travel in Santa Ana has donated two round-trip airline tickets to Washington and Hyatt Hotels is pitching in for a two-night stay at one of its Washington addresses.

“It’s a trip that money can’t buy,” said Associated Travel President Thomas Nulty. Well, usually can’t buy. This time, Nulty said he thinks opening bids could start around $2,000--with all proceeds to benefit the Laguna Art Museum.
