Health Inspectors Cite Burger Stand

A popular downtown Ventura burger stand was temporarily closed after health inspectors discovered a roach infestation there, officials said Thursday.

The Top Hat Burger Palace at 299 E. Main St. was closed for one day last month after the insects were spotted during a routine inspection, according to a county report. County health workers on Feb. 1 noticed roaches in the main food preparation area, including on the condiment table, the report says. The establishment was reopened the next day after the roaches were removed, according to officials.

Other closures for February:

* Carniceria Colima at 2746 Vineyard Ave. in Oxnard was closed several hours on Feb. 28 while owners cleaned up dirty water in a meat locker and cleaned an employee bathroom.

* J & S Produce at 3400 Los Angeles Ave. in Somis was closed on Feb. 28 and reopened the next day. Health officials cited the business for not having a toilet and hand sink available for employees, officials said.
