The seven-member Community Safety Advisory Committee, charged with improving safety for residents and local businesses, will host a meeting today to hear ideas from the public.

The forum will be from 9 a.m. to noon at the Civic Center, 7800 Katella Ave.

Committee member Harrison Hamada said the group, created in December by the City Council, has its final meeting on March 29 and will then make recommendations to the council.

Hamada said the group has met with gang experts, community organizers and others from the county and state to develop a plan for a safer community.

The Orange County Sheriff’s Department, which provides police services to Stanton, has also been involved in the discussions.

Hamada said some goals are to ask the council to increase code enforcement, so that neighborhoods are maintained in a clean and safe manner.

He said needs include more outreach to ethnic communities, safety programs for seniors, and better disaster preparedness.
