COLLEGE ROUNDUP : CSUN Snaps BYU Volleyball Win Streak

Oliver Heitmann had 35 kills and seven blocks to lead Cal State Northridge past Brigham Young, 2-15, 16-14, 16-14, 15-12, Saturday in a Mountain Pacific Sports Federation Pacific Division men’s volleyball match at Brigham Young.

Chris Hewitt added 16 kills and 12 digs, and Gary Reznick had 73 assists and 12 digs for ninth-ranked CSUN (9-7, 5-5), which snapped No. 4-ranked BYU’s eight-match winning streak.

BASEBALL

Antelope Valley 5, Victor Valley 4--Antelope Valley sophomore catcher David Haney’s single with two out in the ninth drove in Chad Goodwin with the winning run in a Foothill Conference game.

Glendale 14, Santa Monica 8--Randy Vickers went three for five with two home runs and four runs batted in and Brian Warner slugged a grand slam to power a 16-hit attack by the Vaqueros (7-7, 5-1) in a Western State Conference game.

Pierce 12, Canyons 5--Sophomore shortstop Edgar Maldonado was three for three with four RBIs and Robert Vasquez went three for five to lead the host Brahmas (8-7, 4-2) to a WSC victory. Lou Tapia’s consecutive on-base streak ended at 12. Tapia had 10 hits and two walks during the streak.

Moorpark 4, Santa Barbara 3--Aaron Fischer had three hits and drove in two runs, including the go-ahead run in the top of the 11th inning for Moorpark (7-6, 2-3) in a WSC game at Santa Barbara.

Bakersfield 13, Valley 10--Jamie Zeichick hit a three-run home run in the first inning but host Valley couldn’t hold on in a WSC game. Jorge Dorado had three hits for Valley (4-11-1, 2-4).

Oxnard 5, Cuesta 2--Robert Sanchez doubled in two runs in the 10th for Oxnard in a WSC game at Cuesta. Chad Olthoff pitched into the 10th for Oxnard (6-9, 3-2) and Craig Arnold earned his first save.

Cerro Coso 7-6, Mission 4-3--Mission starters Rob Ballester and Raymond Rivera took a combined 9-0 record into the doubleheader, but each suffered his first loss.

MEN’S GOLF

Southern California Intercollegiate Golf Championships--Chad Holden finished in second place to lead Northridge to a third-place tie in the university division. Holden shot a 150 over two rounds at Torrey Pines Golf Course in San Diego. The Matadors with a team score of 625, finished 24 shots in back of Cal State San Bernardino.
