Florida goaltender John Vanbiesbrouck got his second victory in four tries against his former team, the New York Rangers, making 27 saves in the Panthers’ 2-1 victory Monday night at Miami. Vanbiesbrouck spent his first 11 seasons with the Rangers before being traded to Vancouver and subsequently being selected by the Florida Panthers in the expansion draft.

The victory moved the Panthers within one point of the eighth-place Philadelphia Flyers in the Eastern Conference.

“I’d be lying if I said it wasn’t extra special,” said Vanbiesbrouck, who made 10 saves in the third period to protect the lead.

Quebec 5, Chicago 1--Scott Young and Mats Sundin each scored one goal and added two assists at Quebec as the Nordiques snapped the Blackhawks’ six-game unbeaten streak.
