VENTURA : Decision Expected on Downtown Site Plan

Share

A subcommittee of the City Council is scheduled to decide today between two development proposals for a 25,900-square-foot parcel in downtown Ventura.

An Oxnard-based company wants to build 26 townhouses and shops on the property at the northwest corner of Figueroa Street and Thompson Boulevard. Holguin, Fahan & Associates, a Ventura-based environmental consultant company, is proposing a Victorian-style office building and warehouse at the site.

“Both would be compatible with the area,” Associate Planner Pat Richardson said.

The city bought the vacant lot in 1989 for $312,000, Richardson said. It is now valued at $310,000, and both companies are interested in buying it from the city. Both are asking the city for low-interest rate loans and other concessions such as waiving permit fees and traffic mitigation fees.
