Jones showed her ability to win quickly as well as her ability to win a marathon match for the Orange Coast team. Jones, from Dana Hills High, had little trouble in her Orange Empire Conference singles matches. She beat Stacie Meeks of Golden West, 6-1, 6-1, then rolled past Debby Springer of Fullerton, 6-0, 6-3. But Jones, ranked eighth in the state, needed three hours 45 minutes to beat Grossmont’s Julie Dobrin, 5-7, 6-4, 7-6 (8-6). Dobrin is ranked 10th in the state. Orange Coast, second-ranked in the state, beat top-ranked Grossmont, 7-1.

Other notables:

* Michelle Morris, Rancho Santiago, set records in the 200 individual medley, the 200 freestyle and the 100 butterfly as the Dons beat Grossmont.

* Emilie Pavlovich, Saddleback, won the 50 freestyle at the Mt. San Antonio Invitational and helped the Gauchos to a second-place finish.
