THOUSAND OAKS : Council Endorses ‘Business Cluster’

Share

Adding $15,000 from city coffers to a heap of private donations, the Thousand Oaks City Council has endorsed a proposed “business cluster” that will gather a dozen environmentally minded entrepreneurs into a shared office.

GTE California has donated more than $200,000 toward the project by offering free use of a vacant building for two years. Organizers are seeking other gifts of money or materials.

In addition to the financial contribution, the council offered to search for surplus equipment to furnish the office. Also, City Manager Grant Brimhall will help set up the cluster.

“What a bargain for the city of Thousand Oaks,” Mayor Elois Zeanah said. “This is just excellent.”

Entrepreneurs, who will pay minimum rent to join the cluster, will share office equipment, reference materials and ideas with other start-up businesses.

Already, coordinators have received dozens of calls from entrepreneurs seeking to join the cluster, which will be the first in Southern California when it opens this summer.
