THOUSAND OAKS : Holocaust Survivor to Give Free Lectures
Seeking to inspire tolerance and encourage peace, Holocaust survivor George Donnenberg will present two free lectures at California Lutheran University next week.
Donnenberg, a Hungarian-born Jew, endured 17 concentration camps during the Holocaust, shuttling from Hungary to Austria to Czechoslovakia to Poland under Nazi command.
He will discuss his experiences and answer questions from the public during the two presentations, scheduled at 10 a.m. March 21 and 8 p.m. March 24. Both will be held in the Preus-Brandt Forum on Cal Lutheran’s Thousand Oaks campus.
“I hope people will learn that everybody’s human and we should not be fighting one another,” said Donnenberg, 72, who owns a photo shop in Thousand Oaks.
“Between Vietnam, Bosnia and Somalia--all that’s going on the world--I hope people will come to their senses,” he added. “That’s what I hope. . . . But that’s all we have is hope.”
