Angel starter John Farrell cleared waivers Thursday and is expected to accept an assignment to triple-A Vancouver. “I just want to get back to pitching again,” he said. . . . Angel outfielder Dwight Smith sang the national anthem before Thursday’s game, prompting the entire Cub team to bow to him in tribute. . . . Angel left fielder Bo Jackson returned to the lineup Thursday after leaving Wednesday’s game with a cramp in his right calf. . . . Dan O’Brien, former Angel vice president, was hired Thursday as director of baseball operations for the Arizona Fall League . . . Jackson teased designated hitter Chili Davis before the game, reminding Davis that he has one hit fewer than Michael Jordan this spring. . . . Rodgers said Greg Myers will probably catch Chuck Finley this season, and Chris Turner will catch Mark Langston. The rest of the playing time between the catchers, Rodgers said, will be divvied up according to merit.
