Activist to Address Task Force on Crime

Chuck Jordan, whose daughter was killed in a drive-by shooting nearly three years ago, will address Thousand Oaks’ Crime Prevention Task Force on Thursday at 7 p.m. in City Hall.

He will show a video he recently filmed about Operation Permanent Cease Fire, his program to halt drive-by shootings. In the video, three convicts in prison discuss their support for Jordan’s efforts to halt gang violence.

“I recruit ex- and active gang members to help me spread the word that drive-by shootings are not only immature, but also stupid, cowardly and insane,” Jordan said.

“There’s nothing I can do to bring my daughter back to life, but in her memory, I can stop people from killing their own little children, their brothers and sisters and neighbors,” Jordan said.

Jordan, who lectures throughout Ventura and Los Angeles counties, said speaking before the Crime Prevention Task Force was like “preaching to the choir.” His real goal, he said, was to reach citizens who have become apathetic or daunted by increasing crime.

“The apathy is our biggest problem, I think,” Jordan said.

After his speech, the Crime Prevention Task Force will hear a presentation about efforts to improve safety and living conditions at the Shadow Hills Apartment Complex. The meeting, chaired by Mayor Elois Zeanah, is open to the public.
