ZIP Code Vexation

Share

Supervisor Maria VanderKolk expressed regret that she could not give the community of Oak Park a new ZIP code, as requested by our community’s elected leaders (“Annexation Is Urged for Oak Park,” March 11).

I am upset that she never seriously tried to resolve this problem that too often causes Oak Park residents to be treated as if they live in Los Angeles County.

Starting the process for a new ZIP code would have been easy. VanderKolk merely had to introduce a resolution at a meeting of the Board of Supervisors, requesting the Postal Service to begin the process. But despite repeated requests from Oak Park residents, VanderKolk never introduced the required resolution to the board.

I just do not understand her position that “They want things, like a new ZIP code, that I can’t give them.” She never really tried.
