A 21-year-old Tustin man--angered over his ouster from Kokomo’s nightclub--returned early Saturday morning and allegedly fired four shots toward the security guards who ejected him, police said.

The two guards ducked for cover at the sight of the .22 caliber handgun, escaping injury. Police said the shooting happened about 1:20 a.m., shortly after Nicholas Vacalopoulos was ordered out of the nightclub at 19727 MacArthur Blvd. in Irvine.

Police said that Vacalopoulos had been forced out because he had been drinking heavily and creating disturbances. As he left, police said, he made threats to the security guards who removed him.

A few minutes later they saw him again, armed with the handgun. The gunfire drew the attention of a police officer who was near the parking lot. According to investigators, Vacalopoulos ran away along MacArthur Boulevard, where he tossed the gun into some bushes.

Vacalopoulos was later arrested and charged with assault with intent to commit murder. He was being held in the Costa Mesa city jail in lieu of $250,000 bail.
