FAMILY : A Source for Facts on Disabilities
It began as a cart of books pushed by concerned parents and professionals who worked with developmentally disabled patients.
It has grown into a full-service resource center for those who seeks answers on mental retardation, autism, epilepsy, cerebral palsy and other disabilities.
The Koch/Young Family Resource Center, at the Frank D. Lanterman Regional Center on Wilshire Boulevard, opened its doors at a dedication ceremony last Friday. The resource center, which receives money from both Lanterman and the state, has been in the works since October, 1992.
The core of the center is a multimedia library that makes available books, videotapes, support groups, on-line computer services and a telephone help line to those who want to know more about a particular disability, said coordinator Leslye Sneider.
“If someone calls in with any type of question, they can get help within 24 hours,” Sneider said.
