U.S. Will Order Increases in Minivan-Pickup Truck Mileage: The Clinton Administration, in a move seen as favoring automotive industry concerns, today will order modest new increases in the fuel efficiency of new minivans and pickup trucks, Administration officials said. Officials said Transportation Secretary Frederico Pena has set standards for 1996 and 1997 light trucks at 20.7 miles per gallon, an increase of 0.1 mpg over efficiency levels for 1995 trucks. The vehicles coming under the new standards account for roughly 40% of the U.S. passenger vehicle market.
