Caltrans officials announced that bridge retrofitting work in Encino will begin in early June.

Five bridges, including a pedestrian crossing at Encino Avenue, will be retrofitted as part of a statewide retrofit program that began in 1989, said Russell Snyder, a Caltrans spokesman.

Construction work will begin in early June and is expected to continue for about one year, he said. The cost of the retrofit program is $287,000, he said.

Most of the work is expected to be done at night and during off hours, but Snyder warned that lane closures may be necessary from time to time during construction. All lane closures will be announced beforehand by the agency, he said.
