VENTURA : City Council to Fill 19 Openings on Panels

The Ventura City Council on Monday is expected to appoint 19 residents to four advisory panels.

Residents will serve one to three-year terms on three committees:

* The five-member Arts and Cultural Affairs Committee makes recommendations about art-related issues, and works toward acquiring art and cultural grants.

* The five-member Tourism and Special Events Committee oversees the city’s tourism efforts, including the Ventura Visitors and Convention Bureau.

* The five-member Historic Preservation Committee oversees landmarks and historic districts.

All three committees report to a fourth panel, the Community Affairs Commission.

Frank Cavola, John Correa, Deborah Nelson, Richard Peterson, Devlin Raley, Wyndra Roche and Bob Swanson are expected to be appointed to the Community Affairs Commission.

Ursula Britton, Neil Demers-Grey, Karen Mayer, Ed Robbings and Roche are expected to be appointed to the arts committee.

Beverly Benton, Nancy Cloutier, Howard McElroy, Marilyn Woods and Raley are expected to be appointed to the tourism committee.

Robert Chianese, Nick Deitch, Carolyn Newman, Jo Rogers and Peterson are expected to be appointed to the historic preservation committee.

All decisions of the panels can be appealed to the City Council.

Three council members--Gary Tuttle, Steve Bennett and Jack Tingstrom--screened and interviewed applicants. They are scheduled to make their recommendations to the council Monday.
