VENTURA : City May Seek Bids for Key Street Project
Ventura city leaders tonight are expected to request bids for a street construction project that officials say is key to their plans to revitalize downtown.
City officials are scheduled to send out for bids on revamping Figueroa Street between Santa Clara Street and Thompson Boulevard.
“It’s one of the three primary connecting streets between downtown and the ocean,” said Pat Richardson, who oversees the city’s revitalization efforts. “The whole intent of our downtown revitalization is to connect our downtown to the ocean.”
The block-long stretch of Figueroa will be entirely redone. It will be narrowed, and new sidewalks, street lighting, traffic signals and palm trees will be added.
Construction on the project, estimated to cost $447,000, is scheduled to begin in May and be completed in August, Richardson said.
