The Times Announces Organizational Changes

Los Angeles Times Publisher and Chief Executive Richard T. Schlosberg III on Wednesday announced a series of organizational changes aimed at strengthening the newspaper’s operations.

William R. Isinger, previously vice president of finance, was promoted to the new position of senior vice president for finance. Isinger, 46, will oversee the newspaper’s administrative services and purchasing departments and continue to supervise its finance, accounting and information systems departments.

Keating Rhoads, formerly vice president of operations, was promoted to the new position of senior vice president of operations. Rhoads, 44, will continue to be responsible for all production operations.

Janis Heaphy, formerly director of display advertising, was promoted to the newly created position of vice president of advertising. Heaphy, 42, will oversee display and classified advertising and creative services departments.

Victor A. Perry III, director of new business development, was promoted to the new position of vice president of new business development. Perry, 40, will continue to be responsible for the creation of new ventures in electronic information, such as the newspaper’s recent agreement with Prodigy Services Co. to provide on-line computer services.

Isinger, Rhoads, Heaphy and Perry will each report to EuGene L. Falk, executive vice president and general manager.

“I am confident that this reorganization will contribute a great deal to our future success,” Schlosberg said.

In other changes, Bob Brisco, director of business planning and advertising operations, was named director of marketing and strategic planning. William A. Niese, senior vice president for law and human resources, who formerly reported to Falk, will now report to Schlosberg.

Executive Vice President Lawrence M. Higby has asked to pursue other opportunities and will temporarily assume responsibility for several strategic projects. He will report to Schlosberg.

Also, The Times’ promotion department now reports to Judith Sweeney, vice president of The Times and president of its Orange County Edition. The communications, community affairs and special events departments report to Roger D. Oglesby, assistant to the publisher.
