LOS ANGELES : Policemen Accused of Firing at CHP Officer to Go to Trial

Share

A judge Thursday ordered two Los Angeles policemen to stand trial for allegedly firing at a highway patrol officer during a drunken off-duty shooting spree on the Harbor Freeway.

After a two-day preliminary hearing, Municipal Judge Elva Soper refused to dismiss any charges against Ted Teyechea and Michael Herrera, who face 14 years in prison if convicted of charges stemming from the Feb. 9 incident.

California Highway Patrol Officer Scott Wall testified that he was on the freeway shoulder when he saw what he believed were “Mexican gangbangers” shooting at him from a pickup truck. Wall said Teyechea and Herrera, both 30, continued to target him as the patrolman chased them on the freeway. The police officers contend that they never saw Wall.
