GLENDALE : Panel Backs Revised Sleepy Hollow Plan
The Planning Commission has voted 5 to 0 to recommend to the City Council a revised plan for a controversial hillside development in Sleepy Hollow Canyon.
The council will review the proposed subdivision for the third time at 6:30 p.m. April 26. The commission vote on the 18-home project was this week.
Plans for the project have been revised several times since council members first rejected a proposal by Doty Development Co. of Glendale to build on the steep hillsides of Sleepy Hollow Canyon in December, 1990.
The council voted down a second plan in February, 1992, saying it would do permanent destruction to the canyon’s ridgeline, endanger a wooded habitat and occupy rare open space.
Doty sued the city in early 1993, alleging the council’s original decision to deny the development did not allow Doty “economically viable use of the property,” said Scott Howard, city attorney.
Resolution of the suit is pending the council’s decision on the third proposal.
