Arum Buys Out Goossen Operation

The Dutch are expected to announce Monday that they will build a temporary 12,500-capacity stadium along the waterfront in Rotterdam for a quarterfinal Davis Cup match against the United States July 15-17.
The matches will be played on a hardcourt surface.
Second-seeded Sergi Bruguera advanced to the quarterfinals of the Conde de Godo ATP tournament in Barcelona with a 6-4, 6-4 victory over Alberto Berasategui. Bruguera, the French Open champion, will play seventh-seeded Richard Krajicek, who beat Andrei Chesnokov, 7-6 (9-7), 6-3.
Soccer
Joao Havelange, the FIFA president, is proposing to increase the number of teams in the World Cup to 32 from 24 for the 1998 tournament in France.
Havelange, trying to win the votes necessary for a sixth four-year term, promised to increase the numbers of teams from Asia and the North and Central American and Caribbean region to three each, from two, without taking spots away from Europe, which has 13 berths.
