Temple to Hold Event to Mark Holocaust

Several hundred members of the Jewish community are expected to observe Yom Hashoah, Holocaust Remembrance Day, at Temple Beth Sholom in Santa Ana on Sunday.

The ceremony honoring those killed in the Holocaust will be held in the temple sanctuary at 2625 N. Tustin Ave. It begins at 2 p.m. and is free and open to the public, said Chelle Friedman, spokeswoman for the Jewish Federation of Orange County, which is co-sponsoring the event.

Participating cantors from Orange County synagogues include Yossie Chazan of Temple Eliat in Mission Viejo, Judith Myersberg of Temple Beth Sholom, Don Croll of Temple Beth David in Westminster, Shula Kalir-Merton of Temple Beth El in Aliso Viejo and Linda Ecker of Congregation B’nai Tzedek in Fountain Valley.

The observance is co-sponsored by several groups, including the Orange County chapter of the American Jewish Committee, the Anti-Defamation League of B’nai B’rith of Orange County, Jewish Educators Assn., Orange County Bureau of Jewish Education, Orange County Board of Rabbis and the U.S. Holocaust Memorial Council.

The Child Survivors, Second Generation and Shoah Survivors are also co-sponsors in cooperation with the Auschwitz Study Foundation.
