Two Simi Valley men saved the life of a motorist trapped in a burning car early Friday after a traffic accident on the Simi Valley Freeway, according to a California Highway Patrol spokesman.

The CHP spokesman said Orlando Allain and Arnold Tibson pulled Gregory Scott McCaslin of Simi Valley from his burning car just before it was engulfed in flames.

“Due to their quick thinking and actions, they saved McCaslin’s life while jeopardizing their own,” the spokesman said.

McCaslin, 21, is in critical condition in Simi Valley Hospital with third-degree burns and neck injuries.

While driving alone on the Simi Valley Freeway, just west of Kadota Street in Simi Valley, McCaslin rear-ended another car driven by Randall Allen, 44, also of Simi Valley. The speed of McCaslin’s car has not been determined, but the force sent Allen’s car across three lanes of traffic and into the median.

Allen had only minor injuries and was not treated. He was also driving alone.

Meanwhile, McCaslin’s car went over the right shoulder, rolling down a 60-foot embankment several times before coming to rest against a tree.

The two men awoke to the sound of the accident at 12:26 a.m. and ran outside with their fire extinguishers. They found McCaslin unconscious in the front seat.
