Guns Are Not the Only Issue in Roberti Recall

Share

* Outrage! The media’s lack of balanced coverage of the recall of state Sen. David Roberti is maddening.

Every time he’s being interviewed he waves a gun and says, “This is what it’s all about.” Not true! That’s a smoke screen contrived to cover up the real issues. Where are the tough questions? If guns were the only issue, why are so many non-gun-rights citizen groups supporting the recall?

Here’s why:

Roberti voted against Proposition 13. He voted for a bill to allow property tax increases without a vote of the people. He voted to lower the votes needed to raise taxes. He voted for Senate Constitutional Amendment 2, lowering the vote needed to raise property taxes. He raised vehicle registration and license fees. There’s nothing this world-class spender won’t tax.

Robert used taxpayer money for a lawsuit against term limits, trying to defeat the will of the people. Voters passed Propositions 68 and 73, which would have reduced special-interest influence by limiting contributions. Roberti sued the voters and overturned those needed reforms. Roberti has voted 10 times to raise his own pay. And now he wants to run for state treasurer? Enough!

Roberti failed to support the Crime Victims Justice Reform Act and opposed “three strikes and you’re out” until he saw that the public overwhelmingly favored tougher anti-crime laws.

I’m not a member of the National Rifle Assn. It is in the interest of every Californian to give the boot to this carpetbagger before he can do more damage. That’s why the recall is supported by People’s Advocate, begun by Paul Gann; the Doris Tate Crime Victims Bureau; Citizens for Law & Order; Californians Against Corruption; Townkeepers Action Group, and other grass-roots citizen organizations.
