MOORPARK : Recreation Center Nears Completion

Moorpark city officials say they are just one month away from finishing a $1.7-million recreation center at Arroyo Vista Park.

The city plans to hold a grand opening ceremony in June for the new facility, said Christine Adams, director of community services.

The new recreation center has a gymnasium and two multipurpose rooms, Adams said. The city plans to keep the facility open 80 hours a week for everything from adult basketball leagues to summer day camp for preschool-age children.

“We’re hoping that the center can be used as much as possible,” Adams said.

The city has spent about $3 million so far to develop about half of the 69-acre park.

Along with the new recreation center, the money has been used to grade and landscape the grounds and install parking lots, Public Works Director Ken Gilbert said.

The city would like to add more than $15 million in improvements, including a lake, tennis courts and baseball diamonds, according to Gilbert.

“We might do that if we can ever find the money,” he said.
