Quinn Buckner, who has four years left on his contract, appears to be out as the Dallas Mavericks’ coach. The Dallas Morning News reported that team employees have been advised not to include Buckner in next season’s advertising campaign.

Felipe Lopez, the high school player of the year, had 25 points in leading the East All-Stars to a 141-135 victory over the West in the Magic Johnson Roundball Classic at Auburn Hills, Mich.

WDAF attributed the report to a unnamed member of the university’s search committee. . . . Wayne Messmer, the public address announcer for the Chicago Cubs, was expected to recover after being shot in the neck on Sunday. Dr. Seth Krosner said it was too early to determine if Messmer’s speaking voice would be affected.
