Santa Clarita / Antelope Valley : Man Indicted in Bomb Threat

Share

A 60-year-old man who allegedly threatened to put a bomb at Edwards Air Force Base was indicted Thursday on federal extortion charges.

Glen Harmon Baker, a Tehachapi resident, called West Point Military Academy in New York on March 27 and said he was going to Edwards to put a bomb there with the intent of hurting a security guard, according to the FBI.

Later that day, security police who were notified of the threat found Baker trying to get on the base, officials said. A loaded magazine for an M-16 rifle, but no M-16, was found in Baker’s car, as were several small bottles that he claimed were nitroglycerin but were not, officials said.

Baker was arrested April 1 and pleaded not guilty to three charges of using interstate telephone lines to threaten someone with injury.

The three-count indictment handed down Thursday by a federal grand jury in Fresno stems from Baker’s alleged calls to the Army academy, officials say. He first called and threatened to bomb the Fresno Police Department, according to the FBI. During his second call, Baker threatened a West Point duty officer and then called a third time saying he was going to place a bomb at Edwards AFB, said the FBI.

For each conviction, Baker faces a maximum penalty of five years in federal custody and a $1,000 fine. A trial date has not been set.
